DabaweGNU L & K sessions talks about Open Street Map and GPS/GIS

Participants from different sectors were present during the recent L & K (Linux and Kape) sessions. L & K is a monthly get-together sponsored by DabaweGNU that offers a venue for spreading technology to different sectors of the society. Its an informal discussion that aims to educate and spark interest among its participants to learn about specific technologies and how we can best benefit from it.

Once again DabawenGNU.org has sponsored a Linux and Kape (L&K) session which will discuss an overview of GIS/GPS technologies and a quick tutorial on using and contributing for Open Street Map initiative. Engr. Marloue O. Pidor and George Tujan of Neuraltech Innovations will take the lead and introduce the group to the world of GIS/GPS and opensource mapping.

Ateneo team bags 2nd in Smart Sweep

A STUDENT team from the Ateneo de Davao University placed second last Saturday in a nationwide contest of mobile solutions to help communities deal with disasters.

The Ateneo de Davao team of Charese Olmoguez, Ann Marie Rosells Balinas, and Flora May dela Cruz had as mentor, engineer Marloue Pidor. They placed second in the 5th Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (Smart Sweep) Innovation and Excellence Award held Saturday at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

World's biggest drawing created with the help of GPS and DHL

Erik Nordenankar used the movement of a GPS device to create a giant single line self portrait on the globe. His Pelican case containing four large batteries and the GPS data logger was handed off DHL with very specific travel instructions for its 55 day journey.
